BOSTON, Mass. - Wednesday afternoon was another day in the office for UMass Boston Men's Soccer. Playing without their starting goalie and the Little East Conference's top goal scorer, the Beacons jumped out to an early lead en route to a 4-1 victory.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 4, UMass Dartmouth 1
UMass Boston (0-7-1, 0-2-0 LEC)
UMass Dartmouth (8-2, 1-1-0 LEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The UMass Boston offense has been firing on all cylinders to start the season, and Wednesday afternoon was no exception. Just inside of the 11th minute of the game, minutes leader
Diego Gisholt took a corner kick and put the ball right where Logan Erickson-Potter needed it. Erickson-Potter's second goal in the last two games and third of the season gave the Beacons an early 1-0 advantage.
The quick UMass Boston goal gave way to a defensive struggle between the two squads. Both offenses saw strong opportunities late in the first half and early in the second, but were kept out of the goal for over 45 minutes.
The scoreless streak came to a close in the 62nd minute when the Beacons' second-leading scorer
Ryan Lima benefitted from an awkward bounce that put his eighth goal of the season past the UMass Dartmouth goaltender, extending their lead to 2-0.
The late goings of the match saw the flood gates open, with 2022 leading scorer
Josh DeAlmeida's second goal of the season being quickly followed by a UMass Dartmouth response. Erickson-Potter finished off the game with his second goal of the day in the 88th minute.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Beacons have scored within the opening 15 minutes of a game four times this season
- Erickson-Potter registered the first multi-goal game of his career
- Lima's eight goals on the season rank just behind teammate Gabriel Meireles for the most in the conference
- Despite giving up the shutout late, Victor Reyes recorded his first victory of the season in net, recording five saves while allowing just one goal
- The Beacons have won nine straight matchups with the Corsairs, with the annually scheduled victory dating back to 2014
WHO'S NEXT
