Blake's Four-RBI Game Lifts Baseball to Conference Win Over Plymouth State

BOSTON, Mass. – Eight unanswered runs from UMass Boston Baseball across the third to seventh innings would be boost the Beacons needed to take over against Plymouth State University on Tuesday afternoon and come away with an 11-5 victory over the Panthers to move to 5-0 in Little East Conference play this season and remain as the only undefeated team left in conference play.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 11, Plymouth State University 5

UMass Boston (15-8, 5-0 LEC)
Plymouth State University (5-12, 0-5 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It would be a quiet first two innings for both teams with the lone run coming for the Beacons on a wild pitch from freshman pitcher Tyler Hicks which would score freshman outfielder Breon Parker from third to make it a 1-0 in the first inning.

Three would be the magic number for both teams in the third inning as both sides scored three runs apiece which kept UMass Boston in front. An error by sophomore pitcher Ross Dexter on a fielder's choice bunt by junior infielder Jackson Curtis would plate the first run of the frame for Plymouth State and then a big two-run double by junior outfielder Luke Sokolski put the Panthers ahead for the first time, 3-1.

But it would be short-lived as three RBI singles from Parker, senior infielder Aidan Blake, and senior catcher Craig Corliss would give the Beacons their responding three runs to jump back ahead, 4-3. With senior third baseman Drew Metzdorf on third in the fifth, Blake would come through with a sacrifice fly to extend UMass Boston's lead to two runs, 5-3.

Another three-spot in the sixth gave the Beacons a stranglehold on the game as sophomore outfielder Mariano Jimenez and freshman outfielder Justin Gouveia each recorded an RBI single and Metzdorf an RBI double that saw UMass Boston go ahead, 8-3. Notching his first RBI of the season, junior infielder Bostyn Burris's single plated another run for the Beacons who held a six-run advantage, 9-3, after seven innings.

After yielding two runs on an RBI single by sophomore utilityman Danny Quinn, Aidan Blake would answer back with his team-tying third home run of the season, a two-run home run, as freshman pitcher Aidan McMillan would finish off the ninth inning to secure the 11-5 victory for UMass Boston.
