Metzdorf's Three-RBI Day Leads Baseball to Win Over Framingham State

BOSTON, Mass.  –  On a cold, windy day at the harbor campus, UMass Boston Baseball's bats came out in full force against Framingham State University at Monan Park, manufacturing a 13-hit performance en route to their dominant 7-1 win over the Rams on Monday afternoon.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 7, Framingham State University 1

UMass Boston (2-0)

Framingham State University (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A scoreless first inning gave way to UMass Boston taking the lead in the second after back-to-back singles from senior infielders Aidan Blake and Gianni Zarrilli Jr. made way for senior first baseman Nick Palma's RBI single to right field which put the Beacons ahead 1-0 after two.

A three-run third inning extended the Beacon lead to four runs after a misplayed fly ball in right field resulted in a leadoff triple for freshman outfielder Joey Morrison. Morrison would score on a fielder's choice by junior outfielder Luke Leavitt and following a walk to sophomore outfielder Mariano Jimenez, senior infielder Drew Metzdorf's two-RBI double down the right field line plated two more runs for UMass Boston.

The Beacon offense would continue to roll into the next inning with a leadoff double by freshman outfielder Breon Parker followed by a Morrison single making it 5-0. Morrison would score later on in the inning on a line drive single from Metzdorf which made it six consecutive runs for UMass Boston over the course of three innings.

Zarrilli Jr's one-out double with Blake on first base would score the seventh and final run of the afternoon for the Beacons who earned their second win of the season, 7-1, over Framingham State University who scratched a run across the plate in the ninth inning on an RBI single by sophomore outfielder Lucas Basile.
