SANFORD, Fla. – Seven unanswered runs by William Paterson University between the third and fifth innings would be the undoing for UMass Boston Baseball on Saturday night at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium as the Beacons dropped their second consecutive game, 9-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior designated hitter Noah Cabassa got the scoring started for the Pioneers with one out in the second inning after reaching on a fielders choice, beating out the attempted double play ball that would have ended the frame, giving William Paterson the early 1-0 lead.

Mariano Jimenez's strikeout wild pitch, the Beacons would briefly jump in front, 2-1, before the Pioneers responded with seven consecutive runs over the next three innings.
William Paterson immediately took the lead back in the bottom of the frame when RBI singles from graduate catcher Steve Yelin and graduate outfielder Dan Carter saw the Pioneers leap back in front by one run after three innings, 3-2. Yelin's RBI single in the fourth inning would extend William Paterson's lead to two before the big blow came from the opposition in the fifth inning.
Scoring five runs in the fifth inning, sophomore shortstop Tyler Ruban's single with the bases loaded followed by graduate second baseman Colin Lombardo's bases clearing double made it an 8-2 game before an error by senior infielder
Drew Metzdorf allowed another run to come home and make it a 9-2 game.
The Beacons would threaten in the sixth inning, loading up the bases after senior infielder
Gianni Zarrilli Jr. knocked an RBI double to left field with one out, but fail to score another run. UMass Boston loaded the bases in two innings during the game with one out, both times only scoring one run. The Pioneers would retire nine of the last 10 Beacon batters as UMass Boston fell 9-3 at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.

UMass Boston heads back to Lake Myrtle, Florida for the remaining five games of their spring break trip which will start with a Sunday night matchup against SUNY Brockport at 6:30 PM. In their previous two matchups, both sides have taken a game each with the Golden Eagles winning 8-7 back in 2005 while the Beacons took the most recent matchup in 2016, 4-3, on a walk off single.
