Men's Basketball Falls on Senior Night, Seeding Still Up For Grabs on Saturday

BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Men's Basketball honored their three seniors, Mariano Olivier-Rodriguez, Tommy Burris, and Malik Lorquet before their final home game of the season against the University of Southern Maine. The Beacons would go on to lose by a final score of 76-60, the three through five seeds are still up for grabs in the Little East Conference Tournament.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 60, University of Southern Maine 76

UMass Boston (15-9, 8-7 LEC)
University of Southern Maine (15-9, 9-6 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After being honored pregame alongside Olivier-Rodriguez during the team's senior day ceremony, Burris nailed a three and Lorquet put in a layup to give the Beacons an early 5-0 lead.

Lorquet finished the game with a career-high 20 rebounds to go with 18 points.

Another bucket from each of them and a three-pointer from Olivier-Rodriguez helped the Beacons maintain a slim 12-11 lead.

Between 14 and one-minute marks, the Huskies outscored the Beacons 23-8. A Bobby Joy three-pointer with 39 seconds to play cut the deficit to 11 but that would hold going into the break.

The Southern Maine lead only grew in the second half, peaking at 74-49 and 76-51.

Seven straight points by Connor Walden helped the Beacons' bench close the game on a 9-0 run but it was too little too late as they lost by a final score of 76-60.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Malik Lorquet needs 17 points to become the 16th member of the men's basketball 1000-point club
  • The Beacons outscored the Huskies in second chance points (23-2) and points off turnovers (19-13)
  • Malik Lorquet's 20th double-double keeps him in a tie with Emerson's Jarred Houston for the second most in all of NCAA DIII this season
