BOSTON, MA (December 6, 2023)—The UMass Boston men's basketball team was outlasted in the conference opener from the Clark Gymnasium in Boston, MA as the Beacons couldn't beat the full-court press by the Wolves.
The Beacs were led offensively by sophomore guard
Carson Meczywor's team-high 12 points on 4-7 shooting, followed by sophomore guard
Alex Woolery, who contributed 10 points on three of six shooting from the field, good for a 50% field goal percentage. Senior guard
Bobby Joy was active on the defensive end, coming away with three steals on the night. Three Beacons led the way on the glass, with sophomore forward Dominic Shaw, first-year forward
Nico Harrington, and junior guard Emanual Zayas recording four rebounds each. Woolery and sophomore guard
Hector Perez had the green light from downtown tonight, as Woolery connected on three of his five shots from deep range, and Perez lined up two from downtown on seven attempts.
The Wolves' full-court pressure caused was intense from the initial jump to the final blow of the whistle. They used their defensive momentum to jump out to an early lead halfway through the first half. The Wolves shot 47% from the field in the first half, hitting 16-34 shots as a team, connecting on 11-29 from downtown. The Beacons found themselves down 20 at the half.
The second half was more of the same, as the Beacons were suffocated by the Wolves' defense and were unable to piece together any threatening runs, as the Wolves ran away with the lead in the second half to bring the W back to Western Connecticut in the Beacons' second LEC matchup this season.
The Beacs head into their next game on Saturday from Providence, R.I as they tip-off against the Rhode Island College Anchormen. They will tip-off at 3:00 pm following the conclusion of the UMass Boston women's matchup vs the Anchorwomen of RIC at 1:00 pm. Live stats and video coverage will be available at
