BOSTON, MA (November 17, 2023) – The Beacons men's ice hockey team came out on top of a dog fight against the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a 4-2 win from the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston, MA as four different contributors inserted themselves on the box sheet for the Beacons in a well-played New England Hockey Conference victory on Friday night.
The Beacons finished with 33 total shots on goal compared to the Huskies' 19, as junior defender
Michael Krupinski and junior forward
Evan Googins led the way for the Beacs offensively, rifling off four shots each.
Four different Beacons contributed to the squad's win on the evening. As junior forward Koyle Bankauskas scored first for the Beacons in the first period to equalize the score at one at piece for the Beacons and the Huskies. Graduate keeper
Sam Best was a wall between the posts, stopping 17 of the 19 shots he faced on the evening.
Much of the second period remained scoreless, and with time running out, sophomore forward
Jude Kurtas connected from first-year defender
Zander Lizotte and senior forward
Gino Carabelli on the Beacons power play to give them a one-goal lead with just under two minutes remaining in the second. The Huskies would waste no time in finding a response, as they finished their equalizer from the first faceoff following the Beacon's second goal. The score was level at two a piece at the conclusion of the second period.
The third period was very reminiscent of the second, as both teams and spectators were preparing for an overtime finish until first-year forward
Jacob Kaminski put the Beacons on top with three and a half minutes to go on an unassisted game-winning goal.
With time winding down, desperation forced the Huskies to pull their keeper with under 90 seconds remaining. Carabelli would capitalize from Bankauskas on the empty net to put the Huskies away, as they capitalized on an exciting ending to a strong team outing on Friday night.
The Beacons ascend to 3-3-1 following tonight's win (3-2 NEHC), as they look to keep the skates sharp and the sticks hot tomorrow evening from home ice at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston, MA against the Beavers of Babson College.
