BOSTON, Mass. – It had been nearly two months since UMass Boston Women's Ice Hockey recorded a win on home ice, but on Saturday afternoon the Beacons came back from a pair of one-goal deficits against Plymouth State University inside Edward T. Barry Ice Rink before sophomore forward
Liz Kramp netted her first goal of the season, the game-winning goal, in the third period to give UMass Boston a 3-2 victory on home ice.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 3, Plymouth State University 2
UMass Boston (6-9-0, 4-4-0 NEHC)
Plymouth State University (2-12-0, 1-7-0 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Like on Friday night, the visitors would strike first as sophomore forward Emily DiSimone wheeled around the net, passing it to senior forward Addie Swanson at the top left point of the offensive zone. Firing a slapshot on freshman goalie
Leah Bosch, Swanson's shot was redirected into the top right corner by junior defender Isabella Borbridge, giving Plymouth State an early 1-0 lead just 2:46 into the game.
Freshman forward
Adriana Crepaldi would offer a response with the first goal of her college career just under four minutes later. After a pass from senior defender
Addie Budington, sophomore forward
Liz Kramp fired in the direction of junior goalie Amelia Julian and Crepaldi redirected the shot through her legs to tie the game up at one.
Junior forward Robyn Grant would help the Panthers regain the lead once more in the first period, as a bouncing puck came off the stick of sophomore defender Breanna Smith and caromed past Bosch after Grant tipped it past the open right side of the crease, giving Plymouth State a 2-1 advantage heading into the second period.
The second equalizer of the affair would come for UMass Boston with 4:12 remaining in the second as junior forward
Katie Wilbert would force a neutral zone turnover and charge into the Panthers' zone. After a quick pass to Crepaldi on the right side, the puck found Wilbert's stick and her shot caromed over to freshman forward
Isabella Henningsson-Brown who backhanded it past Julian for her second goal of the season.
The first goal of the season for
Liz Kramp could not have come at a better time for UMass Boston. The sophomore sped down the ice to corral a puck on the offensive end before circling the net between three Plymouth State defenders. Finding some open space, Kramp fired on Julian and the puck went top shelf into the left side of the net, giving the Beacons the go-ahead goal and eventual 3-2 victory to pull back to .500 in New England Hockey Conference play at 4-4.
