Eastern Nazarene Claws Past Volleyball

Beacons drop 3-0 decision to Lions in their 2022 home debut



BOSTON, Mass. – In their 2022 home debut, volleyball was handed three tough losses as the cross-city rival Eastern Nazarene College handed the Beacons a 3-0 non-conference loss Wednesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening frame, the two teams traded points for majority of the set. Down the stretch, ENC would get the push they needed to take the 25-23 win. The second set was all Lions from the opening serve, setting up a must-win for the Beacons in the third. UMass Boston would once again find themselves in a back-and-forth battle with the Beacons holding the slight edge. Looking to put the match to rest, ENC rallied to go on a 5-0 run to seal the tight 26-24 decision.

Taryn Broughal was the lone Beacon to finish in double-figures as she posted 10 kills to go along with a .300 hitting percentage. Amelia Devlin recorded a career-high 20 assists and a pair of aces. Broughal was the Beacons top server scoring four of UMB's season-high 10 aces.

Ally Dean put-up 18 digs, for her best showing of the young season, while also collecting 30 service receptions.

At the net, UMB posted a combined eight block assists, and one solo stop. Livia Trindade led the team with three BA's, while Broughal scored the lone block solo to go along with a pair of block assists.

Eliana Baren led the Lions with 13 kills, while Andrea Aceituno posted 10 put-downs. The duo of Telma Zelaya and Hailey Wright combined for 32 assists respectively. Amya Altman posted a team-high 16 digs in the non-conference win.
