BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Boston Women's Tennis continued their hot start to the 2022-23 season with another sweeping victory, 9-0, this time over Plymouth State University to earn their second Little East Conference victory, 17
th consecutive win at home, and their third consecutive sweep to begin the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With Plymouth State carrying only five players into the match, the Beacons earned wins in the #6 Singles and #3 Doubles to start the day, going up 2-0 in the match.
Sweeping through the #1 Doubles and #2 Doubles were the pairings of juniors
Lydia Chan and
Meagan Carney as well as sophomores
Elena Albano and
Ayonna Stuppard who took their matches 8-2 and 8-3 respectively.
After a back and forth first set against senior Megan Marshall (6-3 in favor of
Lydia Chan),
Lydia Chan took set two in the #1 Singles by a score of 6-0 to cap off her victory. Freshman
Ayra Shaikh continued an impressive start to her collegiate career with 6-0 and 6-1 victories over junior Sarah Asciutto for her third singles win of the season in the #2 Singles.
Meagan Carney swept through sophomore Tessa Labarre with back-to-back 6-0 victories in the #3 Singles while
Elena Albano squeaked out a 6-4 victory over freshman Alyssa Cragie in set one before sweeping Cragie, 6-0, in set two to earn her win in the #4 Singles.
Ayonna Stuppard closed out the perfect day for the Beacons with 6-1 and 6-2 wins over sophomore Elena Cardoso to cap off the 9-0 victory for UMass Boston as a team.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Across three singles matches to start her career, Ayra Shaikh has dropped only three points across six sets played and one point across two doubles matches played in four sets
- As a team, the Beacons are 17-0 in singles matches this year and 8-0 in doubles, making them a perfect 25-0 in matches this year
- The Beacons have won 9-0 in three consecutive matches for the first time in program history, the record for most 9-0 victories in a single season stands at five
