Women’s Soccer Rallies For Season Opening Draw With Smith

Lindsay Bouscaren scored the equalizer to give UMB the 1-1 tie

BOSTON, Mass. – Lindsay Bouscaren scored a perfectly placed header to lift women's soccer to a 1-1 non-conference tie with Smith College Thursday afternoon at Monan Soccer Field.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 1, Smith College 1

UMass Boston (0-0-1)
Smith College (0-0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bouscaren's crucial score came off a long ball pass from Caileigh Sullivan. The duo connected in the 86th minute, erasing the Pioneers one goal advantage, which came five minutes earlier.

After a quiet first half for both squads, things picked-up late in the second, with the Beacons have multiple chances at goal. The Beacons first solid chance came when Kaylee Haynes just missed an upper corner shot.
Moments later, the Beacons would have a pair of solid chances at goal, both of which were pushed aside by Smith's Noemi Howland.

The one solid chance for the Pioneers came on a throw-in when they took advantage of a defensive miscue by UMB. The ball dropped perfectly to Riley McKenna, who one-timed it to the far post.

Despite the late score by the Pioneers, the Beacons continued to pressure the defense as they stretched the field as much as possible. With the increased width of Monan Soccer Field, the Beacons offense was able to keep Smith on their heels as time continued tick down.

That late surge paid off with the Bouscaren goal, as Sullivan found her teammate wide open right inside the goal box.
