Baseball Sweeps Corsairs With 8-5 Win

Tim Cianciolo earned the win on the hill for the Beacons

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Tim Cianciolo went five complete innings and did not allow a walk to lead baseball to a crucial 8-5 Little East Conference win over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 8, UMass Dartmouth 5

UMass Boston (23-13, 11-3 Little East Conference)
UMass Dartmouth (13-21, 4-10 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED
With Tuesday's win the Beacons will now need to sweep the second-ranked Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday to earn a share of the LEC Regular Season title and the right to host the conference tournament next week.

After an early run from the Corsairs, UMass Boston plated four unanswered runs in the second and third innings. UMass Dartmouth then tied the game in the fourth with three runs, but that lead did not last as the Beacons plated one run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

UMass Dartmouth managed to scrape across one more run in the seventh before being shut down by the Beacons bullpen.

Josh Eastman picked-up the save after going just one inning. Cianciolo allowed just four runs on six hits, while striking out two to earn his third win of the year (3-1).

Three Beacons finished with two hits, with Gianni Zarilli, Jr. recording a double, Craig Corliss had the lone home run for the Beacons as the senior went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
