Baseball Downs UMass Dartmouth For Eighth Straight LEC Win

Beacons remain undefeated in Little East play with 10-7 win over Corsairs

BOSTON, Mass. – The Beacons extended their Little East Conference win-streak to eight-straight games following a wild 10-7 win over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Monan Park.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 10, UMass Dartmouth 7

UMass Boston (19-6, 8-0 Little East Conference)
UMass Dartmouth (11-16, 2-6 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In what started off as a rout in the first inning, quickly turned into a tight one-run affair four innings later, as the Corsairs erased a 7-0 Beacons lead. UMass Dartmouth tacked on six-runs in the fifth inning, but were unable to plate the tying or go ahead run. The Beacons plated a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to gain some breathing room.

Down but not out, the Corsairs tried to cut into the growing lead once again, but were forced to settle for one run, which was unearned, in the top of the eighth.

The first inning scoring spree started when the Beacons had two outs on the scoreboard. Gianni Zarilli, Jr. plated the first run of the day on an RBI single to left field. Corliss would then plate the second run on an RBI single to center. Kevin Carrera drove in Corliss and Zarilli to make it 4-0 at the time. From there the Beacons would quickly load the bases, which Steve Brookwell cleared with one swing of the bat. The senior outfielder drove in all three base runners to cap-off the seven run first.

Unfortunately, the Beacons could not keep that momentum going as they did not plate another run until the sixth inning. The Corsairs would knock starter Tim Cianciolo out of the contest in the fifth, after he allowed all six runs, five earned, on three hits.
The Beacons put-up a crooked number in the sixth with Brookwell driving in his fourth run of the night on a double, while Drew Metzdorf knocked in a run on an infield error by the Corsairs.

Luke Leavitt represented the Beacons final run of the contest, when he scored on a passed ball.

UMass Dartmouth's final run would come in the eighth on an infield single.

Brendan Ferrari picked-up his third win of the season, as he closed out the fifth without allowing a run or a hit. Josh Eastman put the Corsairs away in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the campaign.
