BOSTON, Mass. – A Darby Palisi goal at the midway point of the first overtime gave the fifth-seeded Spartans of Castleton University a 3-2 win over the fourth-seeded Beacons in the quarterfinal round of the NECH Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Palisi would score a breakaway goal after forcing a turnover in the neutral zone. She brought the puck and scored top corner to push the Spartans into the semi-final round of the NEHC Tournament. With the loss the Beacons 2021-22 season comes to a close.
All four goals in Saturday's quarterfinal match-up came in the first period. Castleton University struck first just 37 seconds into the contest. They then made it a 2-0 lead at the 6:27 mark with Brooke Greenwood and Courtney Gauthier giving their team the early advantage.
UMass Boston cut the deficit to one with
Cailey Kozich (Wexford, Pa.) scoring her 10
th of the season. Nine minutes later it was senior
Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) tying the game at 2-2, with
Katie Wilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa.) assisting both goals in the final game of her sophomore campaign.
Castleton would lead in shots in the first period 16-9. They would lead the Beacons 10-9 in the second period, before UMB hit their stride in the third as they outshot Castleton 15-12. UMass held a 3-2 lead in shots in the overtime, and nearly got the game winner in the first five minutes on two separate occasions.
Kirsten DiCicco earned the win after making 34 stops, while
Victoria Kennedy (Winthrop, Mass.) closed out an impressive sophomore season with 37 saves.
