Men's Basketball Drops Plymouth State, 69-63

Charles Mitchell finished with a game-high 19 points to lead UMB to a conference win

BOSTON, Mass. – Four players finished in double-figures as men's basketball picked-up their fourth win in the last 11 days as the Beacons earned a 69-63 Little East Conference win over Plymouth State University Friday evening at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 69, Plymouth State 63

UMass Boston (9-9, 5-5 Little East Conference)
Plymouth State (8-9, 3-5 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Charles Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) led all players with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting, which included three 3-pointers. Charlie Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) dropped in 16 points, while Malik Lorquet (Sharon, Mass.) and Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.) each finished with 11 points. Lorquet also posted 11 boards for the games only double-double.

Kyler Bosse, nearly led the Panthers to a second-half comeback, behind his team-leading 18 points, 14 of which came over the final 20 minutes.

The Beacons led from the opening jump and never looked back against the Panthers. The Beacons would hold a two-possession lead until the final five minutes, when they pushed their lead to double-digits. Zayas would catapult the Beacons to a 15-point lead following a lay-up with just over four minutes left.

Charles Mitchell would give the Beacons a 16-point advantage going into the break following a huge 3-pointer.

Plymouth State tried to roar back in the second half, with Bosse leading the way. After cutting the deficit to single digit, the Beacons got a lift from Charles Mitchel, Zayas and Stephen DiGregorio (Marlborough, Mass.) to push their lead back to 16.

UMB would see their comfortable lead cut to four with just over a minute to play, but a pair of made free throws from Mitchell eliminated the final Plymouth rally.
