HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first half, the Beacons made some key changes in the second, which sparked an immediate offensive surge.
Lindsay Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.) ended the scoreless tie, in the 54
th minute when she tapped home a perfectly place cross from
Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.). Murphy sprinted past the Simmons' defenders and at the last possible second got the ball to the near post right before it went out of play.
Five minutes later, Murphy got in on the scoring as she gave the Beacons some breathing room, with a hard one-timer. Murphy continued her offensive dominance adding her second in the 62 minute, with Bouscaren assisting on both Murphy tallies.
The final goal of the night was the result of excellent ball movement by the Beacons midfield.
Allie Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) and
Morgan Palma (Halifax, Mass.) connected on a pair of quick passes, which gave
Kaylee Haynes a wide-open shot on the backside of the goal.
UMB dominated the shot column as they registered 35, 19 of which were on goal. Simmons was held to just seven shots.
