BOSTON, Mass. – In their final home doubleheader baseball was handed a pair of Little East Conference losses by the 17
th ranked Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University. The Warriors took game one 5-3 before sweeping the series with a 7-1 win in game two Saturday afternoon at Monan Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons saw a 3-1 lead slip through their fingers in the top of the fifth, when the Warriors plated three unearned runs. ECSU would then seal the victory in the top of the ninth with a solo home run. The nightcap was all ECSU from the first pitch. ECSU, who will be the top-seed in this year's LEC Tournament, scored four runs in the top of the second.
UMass Boston responded with their lone run of game two in the bottom of the fourth on a sac-fly from
Michael Comeau (Andover, Mass.). The Warriors added three more runs to the scoreboard in the sixth, and held the Beacons offense at bay for the remainder of the afternoon.
GM1: UMass Boston 3, Eastern Connecticut State 5
In the opener, UMB combined for seven hits with
Ben Irvine (Peabody, Mass.) recording two, as the senior went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Fellow senior
Curtis Tirone (Waltham, Mass.) had a pair of the Beacons RBI, and also had one walk.
Tim Cianciolo was handed the loss after going 5.1 innings, in which he allowed four runs, two earned, while also striking out four.
In the Beacons three-run third inning, Blake plated UMB's first run of the day on a sac-fly. Tirone added two more runs on a double down the right field line.
Billy Oldham improved to 4-0 after going 7.1 innings. He had eight strikeouts and walked only one batter.
GM2 UMass Boston 1, Eastern Connecticut State 7
Jake Parker collected the game-two win for the Warriors after allowing just two hits in 2.1 innings. Despite an impressive 10 strikeouts for
Dillon Ryan (Sandwich, Mass.), the Beacons could not get their hurler any run support. Ryan went five innings and allowed four runs on four hits.
Irvine and
Thomas Cue (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the Beacons with two hits each.
Noah Mader (Austin, Texas) earned three walks and had one hit in his final home game as a Beacon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Saturday's losses ended the Beacons seven-game win-streak over the Warriors which started on April 15, 2017
