RIC Downs Baseball In Little East Play

BOSTON, Mass. – A complete game by Tyler Murray and an eight-run fourth inning lifted Rhode Island College to a 10-2 Little East Conference win over baseball Tuesday afternoon at Monan Park.

UMass Boston (2-2, 2-2 Little East Conference)
Rhode Island College (11-8, 5-3 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Murray limited the Beacons to just nine hits and the two runs both of which were scored in the bottom of the third inning.  The freshman righty did not allow a walk, and had three strikeouts for his first complete game victory.

The Beacons got on the scoreboard in a big way in the third inning when Jason Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) drove in Thomas Cue (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with an RBI single to right center.  Cue got on base after recording his first of two doubles in the contest.  The left fielder finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.  The Beacons second and final run came on a sac-fly by Gianni Zarilli, Jr. (South Glastonbury, Conn.), which scored Sullivan.

RIC responded immediately in the top of the fourth when they sent 14 batters to the plate.  The Anchormen, scored the eight runs on just three hits, while also taking advantage of two UMB errors.  They would then add another run in the fifth and the final in the seventh to secure the victory.

Alex Amalfi was handed the loss after going three innings.  He did record five of the team's 12 strikeouts.

Out of the pen, Jackson Snider (Durham, N.C.) and Aidan McMillan (Walpole, Mass.) both had strong outings as they totaled six strikeouts, while only allowing one run each in five complete innings.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • All-time UMass Boston is now 33-28 against the Anchormen
  • Curtis Tirone (Waltham, Mass.) recorded his second triple of the season in the loss, which was initially ruled a home run in the top of the eighth
  • Chris Ducko (Dedham, Mass.) finished 2-for-4, while Craig Corliss (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Nico Kydes (Stamford, Conn.) also recorded hits
