HOW IT HAPPENED

On senior day, the Beacons looked to take down the conference leading Cadets who will be the top-seed in next week's New England Hockey Conference Tournament.

Despite going shot-for-shot with one of the top offense's in Division III hockey, it was the Cadets who took advantage of their chances as they scored three unanswered goals through the first 40 minutes of play.

The Beacons finally ended Norwich's shutout bid early in the third period with Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) scoring on a 4v4 situation.  Casey Adimey (Buffalo, N.Y.) and senior Arielle Gallucci (Warren, N.J.) assisted on the goal, as UMB looked to battle back over the final 18 minutes.

Unfortunately, five minutes later Norwich regained their goal advantage with Sophie McGovern scoring the game-clinch goal.

In the opening period, Norwich got a pair of unassisted goals, over a three-minute span to take the 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second stanza saw the Beacons lead in the shots column as they tried to erase the deficit.  However, the Cadets got some additional breathing room with Jessica Piracini finding the back of the net.

Between the pipe senior Alyssa DePippo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded 16 saves in her final game on the Beacons home ice.

Along with DePippo and Gallucci, Friday's contest marked the final home game in the careers of Kaleigh Beauregard (Gaylord, Mich.), Kaitlin Parent (Myersville, Md.), Edy Moritz (Guilford, Conn.), Emily Harris (Littleton, Colo.), and Jane Morrisette (Pembroke, Mass.).

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Friday's contest marked the 109th career game for Gallucci, Beauregard, and Mortiz, which ties the program record
  • On the night UMB finished 0-for-3 on the power-play, while the Cadets went 0-for-5
  • Norwich held a slim 20-19 advantage in shots on goal
  • Emily Lambert made 18 saves in the win to improve to 15-4-1 on the year
