Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A second-period goal from Erica Lunn (Kingston, Mass.) proved to be the deciding score, as women's hockey earned a tight 2-1 New England Hockey Conference win over Johnson and Wales University Saturday afternoon at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.

UMass Boston (5-6-1, 4-4-0 NEHC)
Johnson & Wales (5-5-1, 4-2-0 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lunn's game-winner came in the fifth minute of the second period when she fired a perfect shot past Johnson and Wale goalie Claire Parry.  The Wildcats turned the puck over in the neutral zone, where it landed on the stick of Bri Colucci (Lancaster, N.Y.).  The senior defenseman then sent a perfect pass to Lunn up the middle of the ice, as she split the J&W defense.

The goal was the fifth of the season for the senior, and her first game-winner of the 2019-20 season.

Colucci picked-up her third assist of the year on the crucial play, which gave the Beacons their fourth straight win over an NEHC opponent.

Johnson and Wales scored the first goal of the afternoon with Kathryn Mason beating Caty Flagg (Methuen, Mass.) in the third minute of the contest.

The Beacons would respond with the tying goal 12 minutes later when defenseman Jane Ann Drill (Madison, Wis.) scored on her rebound after making a great give-and-go pass in front of the Wildcats' goal.  The goal was the first of the year for the junior blue-liner.
