HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior transfer John Santos recorded his first collegiate goal for the visitors, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Beacons finished the tournament with a 1-1 mark.
Santos, who started his career at conference rival UMass Dartmouth, scored just before the hour mark to cut the deficit to 2-1. He took a cross from freshman Jonathan Rodrigues (Brockton, Mass.) and blasted his shot into the far netting at 59:15.
The Red Dragons put away any chance of a Beacons' comeback, when they scored two goals in less than two minutes later in the half.
Junior goalie Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.) made seven saves on 11 shots in the loss.
Castro-Dreher and sophomore center back Yuran Teixeira (Prai, Cape Verde) were both named to the Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team.
SUNY Oneonta started the scoring in the ninth minute, when Douglas Minogue scored off a Nicholas Plate pass.
Plate set up the second goal as well, as his initial shot was stopped, but Roberto Ventura headed home the rebound to make it 2-0 at 33:15.
After Santos made it 2-1, SUNY Oneonta scored two goals in the final 10 minutes.
Witman Hernandez chipped Castro-Dreher to make it 3-1 at 81:24 and Arkadij Raiz extended the lead to 4-1 at 83:17 when he fired a long-distance strike from 25-yards out.
