Box Score

THE BASICS

#9/10 UMass Boston 5, Johnson & Wales University 2

(UMass Boston 6-0, NEHC 5-0)
(Johnson & Wales 0-3-2, NEHC 0-2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beacons scored at least one goal in every period to hand the Wildcats a loss in the first-ever conference meeting between the two programs.

Egbert was solid throughout his first collegiate appearance. The freshman made five saves in the first period, before adding 11 in the second and nine more in the final stanza.

Johnson & Wales Mike Rockwell stopped 35 of 40 shots to fall to 0-3-2 on the season.

UMass Boston took the lead for good at 18:47 of the first period. Senior captain Gabe Chuckran (Media, Pa.), who missed both games last weekend due to an injury, took a pass from fellow senior David MacGregor (Azusa, Calif.) and went top-shelf for his first goal of the season.

The Beacons doubled their lead 4:11 into the second period. Dakota Keene (Poland, Maine) found freshman Chris Peters (Rochester, N.Y.) wide-open in front of the net and the freshman slipped it past Rockwell for a 2-0 lead.

UMass Boston tacked on a third goal 1:25 later. This time it was senior defenseman Bryan Carter (Hudson, Mass.) finding John Regnart (Anchorage, Alaska) for Regnart's third goal of the season.

Johnson & Wales got on the scoreboard with 5:07 to play in the period, as Conor Cassidy recorded his first goal of the year.

The Beacons extinguished any momentum the Wildcats could muster right before intermission, when Zack Bross (St. Louis, Mo.) scored on the power-play at 19:42. Nick Albano (Beverly, Mass.) recorded an assist on the power-play tally.

UMass Boston added their fifth and final goal early in the third. This time it was senior Garrison Sanipass (Northbrook, Ill.) scoring on the power-play off a Nolan Redler (Winchester, Mass.) helper.

The hosts closed out the scoring at 17:53 of the third. Anthony Scarcella netted a power-play goal off a feed from Jake Glod.
