Bishop Sets Program Record In 7-2 Win Over Skidmore

Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Behind a career-night from freshman Nolan Redler (Winchester, Mass.) and a milestone setting night from Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.), UMass Boston men's hockey cruised to a road conference win over host Skidmore College.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 7, Skidmore College 2

(UMass Boston 10-7-2, NEHC 5-5-1)

(Skidmore College 7-9-2, NEHC 6-4-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

UMass Boston raced out to a 5-0 lead 3:40 into the second period and never looked back in their first game of a four-game road trip.

Redler provided the bulk of the scoring, as the freshman forward netted his first collegiate hat trick and a career-best five points. Redler scored the Beacons' first, fifth and seventh goals and assisted on their second and third.

His linemates had huge games of their own, with Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) registering a career-best four assists and freshman Ryan Cusin (Detroit, Mich.) tacking on a goal and two assists.

Bishop had a huge game of his own, as the defenseman set the UMass Boston program record for career defenseman points (83). The senior defenseman set the record with his assist on the Beacons' first goal and he tacked on a goal to start the second.

Freshmen Cody Wickline (Flower Mound, Texas) and Dakota Keene (Poland, Maine) also scored in the Beacons' biggest conference win since mid-November.

In net, freshman Bailey MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass.) improved to 3-2 with a 36-save performance. He stopped at least 10 shots in every period, including 14 in the second stanza.

Anthony Bird and Matt Bernot both scored for the hosts-who saw their winless streak extend to three games.

Jack McDonald was charged with four goals allowed on 14 shots, before being pulled 3:40 into the second period. Brandon Kasel came on and replaced MacDonald and allowed three goals on 17 shots.

UMass Boston opened the scoring 8:52 into the first, when Redler struck for the first of his three goals. With a 5-on-3 just expiring, Redler took passes from Larkin and Bishop before beating McDonald top shelf.

Cusin doubled the lead at 14:04, with Redler and Larkin being credited with assists on the play.

The Beacons put the game away for good with three goals in a 4:27 span of the second. Bishop opened the scoring spree with a goal three minutes into the period and Wickline chased McDonald just 40 seconds later with an even-strength tally.

UMass Boston made it 5-0 minutes later when Redler scored at 7:27 with Larkin and Cusin once again assisting on the play.

The two teams traded tallies in the third period. Bird scored an unassisted short-handed tally at 9:05, but Keene was able to answer for the Beacons at 10:29.

Skidmore cut the deficit back to 6-2 at 13:44 on Bernot's goal, only to see Redler complete the hat trick at 16:23.
