Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – A Jaclyn O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) goal midway through the first half, and a combined nine saves from Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) earned women's soccer a 1-1 non-conference tie with Salem State University Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

O'Grady got the Beacons on the board in the 24th minute off of an assist from Jessi Beverlin (Eagle River, Alaska).  Despite the early lead, the Vikings quickly made it a 1-1 game, thanks to a goal from Katie Brown.  Brown's equalizer came in the 33rd minute, with Casey McFall earning the assist.

The two teams were evenly matched in the opening 45 minutes of Tuesday's contest with the Vikings holding an 8-6 advantage in total shots.  In the second half, the Vikings offense increased their pressure but Fugiel was able to keep them off the board forcing their second straight overtime game.

In the extra frames, the Beacons would manage one shot in each overtime, while Salem State's only shot came in the first OT.

For the Vikings Amanda Backer made a total of eight saves to earn her first tie of the season.
