#20 Men's Soccer Topples Union In Matchup Of Unbeatens

Box Score

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Three different players found the back of the net for #20 UMass Boston men's soccer, as the Beacons downed previously undefeated Union College in the opening game of the CIAO Classic.

THE BASICS

#20 UMass Boston 3, Union 0

(UMass Boston 4-0-0)

(Union College 3-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a matchup of two undefeated sides, the Beacons scored twice in the opening 30 minutes and added a late goal to defeat the Dutchmen. Union had not allowed a goal in their first three games and had outscored their opponents 9-0.

Freshman Ocane Williamson (Spanish Town, Jamaica), sophomore Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.) and Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde) all scored in the win for the Beacons. Williamson also added an assist, to add to his team-leading total of 11 points.

Fellow freshman Jake Davenport (Weymouth, Mass.) earned his first collegiate start and recorded his first collegiate assist.

Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.) continued his tremendous start to the season, as the freshman goalie stopped five shots to move to 4-0-0 on the year.

Williamson keyed the first Beacons goal after receiving a pass 25 yards from goal. The freshman drove towards the top of the box with Kenawy to his left and drew the center back his way, before laying off a pass. Kenawy took one touch before slipping a left-footed shot back to the near post in front of a charging Weitzman at 17:17.

Just over 10 minutes later, Williamson received a Davenport pass and slipped it through for a 2-0 advantage at 28:04.

Union nearly got on the scoreboard themselves at 29:56 but Castro-Dreher read Andrew Fontaine's free kick perfectly and tipped Fontaine's shot, that was ticketed for the top left corner, just over the bar.

Castro-Dreher was called upon to make another big save in the 58th minute. After struggling to gain any kind of possession to start the half, Union crossed a ball into the box right to a wide-open Ethan Strauss, but Strauss' blast went right into the chest and hands of the Beacons' freshman goalie.

After some tremendous passing opened up the Union defense, Barros put the Dutchmen away with his second goal of the season. He received a pass at the top of the 18-yard box and drove to the right side, before unleashing a missile into the top-left corner at 86:06.
