Volleyball Remains Undefeated In Conference Play

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Led by Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) and Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.), volleyball collected their fourth straight Little East Conference win as they cruised past UMass Dartmouth by the final of 3-0 Tuesday evening at the Tripp Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

From the opening serve the Beacons controlled Tuesday's contest.  After a tough weekend, UMB was able to take out some frustration as they cruised to a 25-13 win in the first set.  In the second set, the Beacons collected a 25-18 victory, while in the third and final set UMB finished with a 25-16 win.

Murphy and Shi combined for 22 kills respectively, with Shi hitting a match-high .500.  Murphy was just as efficient as the senior All-American finished with a .471 hitting percentage. 

Freshman Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.) also had one her best performances as the 6'2" middle scored six kills and hit .500 in the crucial conference win.  Setters Pepper Baker and Christina Elliott finished with 19 and 22 assists respectively.  Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) totaled 17 of the team's 35 digs. 

For the Corsairs Anita Sengara collected seven kills in the loss, while setter Christina Sinazola finished with 17 assists.  A trio of Corsairs finished with seven digs, while Kayla Kirby recorded a pair of solo blocks.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • With the win, UMass Boston has now won nine straight matches over the Corsairs
  • Murphy now needs just 98 kills to move into a tie for second place all-time in program history
  • Murphy also needs just 14 total blocks to tie the program record of 376
  • The Beacons .352 hitting percentage as a team marked the fourth best offensive showing this season, and second best in conference play

WHO'S NEXT

Volleyball will travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday where they will play a tri-match against Colby-Sawyer and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  Times of their matches are scheduled for 12 and 3 p.m.
