Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.—Led by a career-high three points from senior Zach Lindsay (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), #3/4 UMass Boston men's hockey cruised to a 5-1 win over Curry College in their 2016-17 season opener.

THE BASICS

#3/4 UMass Boston 5, Curry College 1

(UMass Boston 1-0)

(Curry College 0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lindsay was one of five Beacons to find the back of the net and freshman goalie Jordan Bustard (Flanders, N.J.) had a successful collegiate debut, to help the Beacons cruise past the host Colonels.

Bustard stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced and he carried a shutout into the second period. The freshman goalie stopped the first 10 shots he faced and finished with at least six saves in each period.

Lindsay scored the Beacons first goal of the season and tacked on assists on the team's third and fifth goals. Senior captain Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) and sophomores David MacGregor (Asuza, Calif.) and Garrett Gallagher (Aston, Pa.) also found the back of the net in the victory. Senior defenseman Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) tied Lindsay for the team lead with his two assists.

Freshman Tyler Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) became the first member of this year's freshman class to score, as he found the back of the net with 1:31 left in the third period. Classmate Ryan Cusin (Detroit, Mich.) added an assist in the win.

Shane Tracy scored the lone goal of the day for the Colonels, who dropped their second-straight season opener at the hands of the Beacons. Senior goalie Brett Sinclair stopped 44 of the 49 shots he faced.

It took UMass Boston just 5:16 into the game to take a lead, as Lindsay scored a power-play tally off a pass from sophomore Gabe Chuckran (Media, Pa.).

Daley doubled the Beacons' lead at 16:46, when he took passes from Bishop and Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.), before firing home for a power-play tally.

The Beacons made it 3-0 just 80 seconds into the second period, with MacGregor scoring his first goal of the season. Bishop and Lindsay were credited with assists on the play.

Curry got themselves back into the contest at 6:45, when Tracy scored a power-play tally.

It was all UMass Boston in the third period, as Gallagher and Sifferlen each found the back of the net to put the game out of reach.
