Comeback Falls Short For Men's Basketball at RIC

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite a career-high 23 points from senior Quadry Allen (White Castle, La.) men's basketball was unable to complete a second half comeback as Rhode Island College defeated the Beacons 73-67 in a Little East Conference contest Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 73, Rhode Island College 67

UMass Boston (5-8, 1-2 Little East Conference)
Rhode Island College (2-11, 1-2 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Allen's afternoon was fueled by an 8-for-12 showing from the field, 3-for-5 from behind the arc.  He also went 4-for-5 at the line to fuel the Beacons offense, which erased a 20-point deficit around the midway point of the second half.

Off the bench fellow senior Michael Campbell (Boston, Mass.) finished with 15 points, three assists, and two steals.

Allen accounted for the final eight points for the Beacons, as he drained a pair of threes while also going 2-for-2 at the line.  His first three in the final minute of play cut the Anchormen's lead to seven with 28 seconds left on the clock.  RIC would then go 2-for-2 at the line to keep it a nine point game.  The Beacons would force a turnover, and would find Allen wide open from deep, where then drained his fourth 3-pointer of the night to make it a two possession game.

Unfortunately time was not on the Beacons side, as the Anchormen managed to kill off the final seconds remaining to secure their first conference win of the year, and only their second win all season.

On the glass, RIC was dominant as they outrebounded the Beacons 42-23.  UMass did shoot a solid 45.5% from the field and 45.7% (7-16) from 3-point range.  For the first time since his third game of the season sophomore guard Maurice Magras (Medford, Mass.) was held to single digits as he dropped in just nine points in Saturday's conference game.
