HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior defenseman Alexa Cappione (Massena, N.Y.) ended the scoreless draw at the midway point of the opening period on an unassisted play. The Beacons, who edged Salve in total shots 20-19, led first period 8-2 in the shots column.
After the intermission, the host Hawks evened the score at 1-1 at 12:34 with Shelby Johnson ending Salve's scoring drought. However less than 30 seconds later, the Beacons regained their lead, as Kristina Bove (Medford, Mass.) knocked in her first collegiate goal to make it 2-1 with less than seven to play in the frame.
The Beacons would build-off of the Bove goal and combined for nine shots in the second, while defensively they held Salve to lone score, despite 13 shots from the Hawks offense.
The third period proved to be a wild one as the officials whistled a combined six penalties, after calling just two in the first 40 minutes of play. Despite the increased number of visitors to the penalty box, the Beacons continued to play their game, with Kaleigh Beauregard (Detroit, Mich.) sealing the victory just 37 seconds into the final period.
Assisting on the play was Kristen Embrey (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) as the Beacons skated to the victory. Beauregard's goal marked the sixth of the year, which ties her for second on the team.
Between the pipes Rachel Myette (Pembroke, Mass.) collected her seventh win of the year (7-4-0) after making 18 stops. For Salve, Colleen Marcik tallied 17 stops in the loss.
