Rhode Island College (2-4, 0-1 Little East Conference)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two squads played an even opening 15 minutes, but the Beacons started to gain the edge by gaining the momentum and forcing RIC junior goalkeeper Chris Moura to make several key stops to keep the game scoreless.
The game remained scoreless until UMB junior back Matheus Reis (Mantena, Brazil) fed Elton Teixeira (Fogo, Cape Verde) who sprinted down the left side, cut to the goal, deked two RIC defenders and slipped the ball into the net from the top of the six-yard box in the 42nd minute.
The Beacons would maintain their 1-0 lead for the next 46 minutes, when Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) secured the conference victory off of a Teixeira assist at 87:57. The goal aws the second of the year for the All-Region player, while Teixeira's marker was his third of the campaign.
Between the posts Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) posted four saves, while Moura ended the afternoon with a total of five stops in the conference loss. UMass also held a 19-11 advantage in total shots, with 15 of those coming in the first half.
