Regionally-Ranked Babson Blanks Women's Soccer 2-0

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Despite amassing a season-high 13 shots and seeing the season-debut of senior captain Kara Peters (Agawam, Mass.), UMass Boston women's soccer was blanked for the third-straight game Wednesday night by regionally-ranked Babson College.

THE BASICS

Babson College 2, UMass Boston 0

(UMass Boston 1-3-1, Little East 0-0-0)

(Babson College 6-1-0, New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference 0-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Babson College scored goals 32 minutes apart to hand the Beacons their third-straight shutout loss. Meghan Tyson scored at 15:19 and Jessica Fernandes added a tally just 2:59 after halftime, to give the Beavers their first-ever win over UMass Boston (1-0-1).

Despite the scoreline, UMass Boston proved much more competitive offensively, recording a season-high 13 shots and outshooting the Beavers 9-6 in the second half.

Peters tied with fellow senior midfielder Alexandria Levesque (Metheun, Mass.) for the team-high with two shots on goal, while freshman Kate Leavitt (Plymouth, Mass.) led the Beacons with four total shots. Peters had missed the team's first four games after suffering an injury during preseason.

Freshman goalie Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) made seven saves on nine shots, to keep the Beacons close with the eight-ranked team in the National Soccer Coaches of America Association Poll (NSCAA).

BY THE NUMBERS

  • UMass Boston's three-consecutive scoreless games marks the first time the Beacons have been held scoreless in three-straight games since 2006.
  • Babson's Olivia Kerester earned the assist on both of Babson's goals.
  • The Beacons earned a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Fugiel has made at least seven saves in all five of the Beacons games.

NEXT UP

UMass Boston will play their home opener on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Boston College High, when they host Rhode Island College. The Beacons will look to snap their scoreless drought in their Little East Conference opener, as they have earned seven-straight wins over the Anchorwomen and averaged 4.3 goals during that span.
