HOW IT HAPPENED

The teams traded goals in the first period and PSU scored twice in the second period, and that turned out to be all of the scoring. Freshman goaltender Emelie Lindqvist stopped 28 shots for the Panthers to post her first career victory.

The visiting Beacons, coming off a 2-0 win over New England College on Friday night, opened the scoring midway through the opening period on Saturday. Sophomore Jane Morrisette (Pembroke, Mass.) sent a pass to junior Lizzie Aveson (West Covina, Calif.) streaking up the right side, and Aveson fired a shot past Lindqvist for her second goal of the season. The Panthers answered at 14:39 when freshman Kelsey Roy stole a clearing pass just inside the blue line and snapped a shot into the top right corner for her first career goal.

PSU pulled ahead with two second-period scores. Lynch slid a nice pass from the left side across the crease to freshman Taylor Jackson, who tipped the puck past the goalie just inside the right post at 6:44. Lynch then made it 3-1 when she stole the puck along the left boards and snapped a shot top right for her first goal of the season at 11:32.

UMass Boston had a 13-5 shot advantage in the third period but couldn't get one past Lindqvist. The Beacons finished with a 29-19 margin in shots on goal for the game. Senior goalie Casey Schaejbe (Arlington, Mass.) made 16 saves for UMB in the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS
