HOW IT HAPPENED
In a dominating performance by the Beacons, UMB outshot the Pilgrims a lopsided 55-12 in the first conference game for both squads. After a scoreless first period, the Beacons finally got on the board at 13:35 in the second when Cappione fired home the puck past Lindsey Powers to the upper right corner on the power play. Lizzie Aveson (West Covina, Calif.) picked-up the assist on the play, her first of two on the night.
The Beacons gained some insurance on the board in the third frame when Beauregard fired home a perfectly placed pass from Aveson. Kat Armstrong (Boulder, Colo.) was also credited with an assist, as the Beacons sealed the conference win.
Casey Schaejbe (Arlington, Mass.) posted 12 stops in the conference shutout. The win marked the first for the netminder since the 2013-14 season.
