Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.—#3 Norwich University (13-3-2, 10-0-1 ECAC East) scored five second-period markers to cruise to a 5-1 victory over UMass Boston women's hockey (8-8-4, 5-5-2, ECAC East) Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
Five different players scored in a 16-minute 15-second span for the Cadets, who extended their ECAC East unbeaten streak to 27 in a row.
Junior forward Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season to break up the Norwich shutout bid with under 12 minutes remaining. Sophomore forward Kristen Embrey (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was credited with the lone assist on the play.
With the loss, UMass Boston dropped their fourth-straight contest and fell to .500 in conference play and overall for the first-time this season.
Moe Bradley (Swampscott, Mass.) stopped 38 shots of 43 shots to take the loss. The senior stopped the first 19 shots she faced, including the first 19 she faced.
Norwich freshman goalie Celeste Robert earned the win by making 11 saves on 11 shots over the first two periods. Senior Loren Carrier played the final 20 minutes and allowed one goal on eight shots.
For the game, Norwich outshot UMass Boston 43-19, with all of the damage coming in the first two periods.
The Cadets piled up a 17-4 shot advantage in the first period, but Bradley was able to withstand the pressure. After a five-goal outburst in the second where Norwich outshot UMass Boston 17-8, the two teams were even in shots in the third (8-8), with the Beacons managing to score the lone goal of the stanza.
Norwich finished 1-for-3 on the power-play, while UMass Boston was held to an 0-for-2 mark.
UMass Boston will host Nichols College on Friday at 4 p.m. in a key ECAC East Conference contest.
