Men's Basketball Falls In Final Non-Conference Game

Box Score

MEDFORD, Mass. – Led by Hunter Sabety's game-high 24 points the Jumbos of Tufts University defeated men's basketball by the final of 80-67 Thursday evening Cousens Gymnasium.

Thursday's loss marked the final non-conference match of the 2014-15 season for the Beacons as they fell to 9-8 overall.  For the Jumbos, they improved to 8-7, as they claimed their fourth straight victory.

Not only did the Jumbos use the strong play of Sabety, but they also held the Beacons to just 36.7% shooting from the floor to help keep their win-streak alive.

Despite struggling from the field, the Beacons did keep the score close for most of the night, as they never trailed by more than 10 until midway through the second half.  The Jumbos earned their largest lead of the night late in the final half, as they made it a 15-piont game on a Sabety lay-up.

However, the Beacons would try to battle back, with senior Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) once again leading the way.  The forward matched the game-high with 24 points as he continues to climb the all-time scoring list at UMass Boston.  With Thursday's performance, the Brockton native now sits eighth all-time with 1,116 points.

Junior Omar Benabicha (Saugus, Mass.) continued his standout play as of late, as he dropped in 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting, 3-for-6 from behind the arc.  Ten of those points came in the final 20 minutes of play.  Junior Karl Agenor (Dorchester, Mass.) finished with a team-best eight boards in the loss.

On the glass, the Jumbos held a 35-31 advantage, while from the field they shot 53.8% overall.  They also shot over 36% from behind the arc and 81% from the line.  However the charity stripe belonged to the Beacons as they shot a season-high 90.5% (19-21).

The Beacons return to action on Saturday when they host Keene State College at 3 p.m.
