Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A 24-5 run midway through the second half blew open what was a back-and-forth contest as the Anchormen of Rhode Island College defeated men's basketball by the final of 89-63 Saturday afternoon in the Clark Athletic Center Gym in a Little East Conference match-up.

Despite the loss, senior Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) had the highlight of the day as he scored his 1,000th career point scoring 11 points in the conference loss.  With the win, the Anchormen improved to 8-3 overall, 1-1 in the Little East Conference.  The Beacons fell to 7-3, 0-2 in the conference.

Joseph became just the 12th player in program history to hit the 1,000 point mark, and the first to do it since Amigo Paniagua '08.  On the day the Brockton native shot 5-for-12 with one 3-pointer.  He also grabbed seven boards and had four assists.

Junior Karl Agenor (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Beacons with 13 points, but had only two rebounds, while Luc Ulysse (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with nine points and two assists.  Senior Gregory Young (Dorchester, Mass.) led the contest with a career-best eight assists to go along with eight points and four boards.

The first half of Saturday's contest was see-saw affair as the two squads shot over 53.3% through the first 20 minutes.  The Beacons held a slim one-point advantage as they entered the locker room (39-38).

UMass Boston played a balanced game to stay ahead of the reigning Little East Conference tournament champions.  Seven different players recorded points in the opening frame, with Joseph leading the pack with nine on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field.  Agenor kept pace with eight points of-his-own.

After the break the Anchormen's offense exploded as they shot 63.6% from field and 66.7% from 3-point range to blow the game wide open.  On the day Rhode Island College shot over 60% (34-56) from the floor and 61.5% (8-13) from 3-point land.

The Anchormen also held a 34-21 advantage on the glass.

The Beacons finished the first half of their regular season shooting 48.2% from the field (27-56) and just 35.3% (6-17) from 3-point range.

Eric Alleyne led the Anchormen with 21 points, while Chris Burton finished with 19 points, six boards, and two blocked shots.

The Beacons return to action on January 6 when they host Framingham State University at 7:30 p.m.
