Women's Hockey Routs Plymouth State, 9-2

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Eight different players found the back of the net as women's ice hockey dismantled ECAC East opponent Plymouth State University by the final of 9-2 Saturday evening in the Beacons Ice Arena.

With Saturday's win the Beacons continue one of their best starts in program history as they improve to 4-0-0, 2-0-0 in the ECAC East.  The Panthers fell to 1-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference following Saturday's loss.  Saturday's win also snapped a three-game skid, and marked the most goals scored by the Beacons since they registered 11 against the Panthers in 2010.  Having a huge collegiate debut was freshman Maren Brown (Brainderd, Minn.) who tallied three assists in the one-sided victory.

The Beacons got on the board early in the first period when Angela Dandreo (Swampscott, Mass.) connected on her first goal of the year at 3:32.  In the 13th minute transfer Sara Alonardo (Wilmington, Mass.) recorded her third score of the season to give UMass Boston a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

After the break, Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) pushed UMass' lead to three with her first marker of her junior season.  The Panthers ended the Beacons shutout bid at the 7:53 mark on a power-play goal from Cortney Sollows.

UMass would respond just over two minutes later when Jane Morrisette fired home a power-play goal of her own to make it 4-1 Beacons.  Kayla Smith (Woburn, Mass.) added to the Beacons lead less than two minutes later with her first goal, making it 4-1 with less than nine to play in the second.

Plymouth State notched their final goal of the contest 36 seconds after Smith's with Haley Branovan scoring at 11:51.

Following the second intermission, the Beacons unloaded four goals in a 14-minute span to cruise to cap-off a 15-goal weekend UMass.  Alonardo scored her second goal of the contest to lead the flurry.  Alexandra Karlis (Parker, Colo.) added her first marker of the year, while Alyssa Sullivan (Medford, Mass.) and Emily Howard (Terryville, Conn.) each recorded unassisted power-play goals.

Senior netminder Kailyn Burke (Franklin, Mass.) earned her second win of the year after registering 10 saves.  Alyssa Altschuler was handed the loss after totaling 23 of the team's 40 saves.  Mariah Trupp closed out the contest for the Panthers.

On the day, UMass was 3-for-5 on the power-play, while the Panthers were 1-for-2.  The Beacons defense as a whole was impressive totaling seven blocked shots, while the team finished the contest with a +2 rating.

Women's Hockey returns to action on Friday when they travel to Harrisville, R.I. to take on Nichols College at 6:40 p.m.
