Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H.—Senior Nathan Milam (Westland, Mich.) scored twice in the first period and UMass Boston men's hockey cruised to a 3-1 victory over Saint Anselm College (0-2, 0-2 ECAC East) to match the best start in program history.
With the victory, the Beacons matched the 1981-82 and 1991-92 team with their 4-0 start to open the season.
Milam's two goals came within 18 seconds of each other midway through the first period, with senior Stephen Buco (North Providence, R.I.) picking up assists on both scores. Fellow seniors Mike Kuhn (Holbrook, Mass.) and Dan Cornell (Abington, Mass.) also added assists in the period.
Junior Mike Miller (Wrentham, Mass.) added the final goal for the Beacons, with his second goal in as many days. Kit Sitterley (Mooresville, N.C.) and Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) posted assists on the play.
In net, junior Zach Andrews (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted a season-high 38 saves on 39 shots, to move to 3-0 on the year.
Sean Jenkins broke up the shutout with 52 seconds to play for the host Hawks, with Kody Grondin and Johnny Daniels picking up assists.
Shane Joyce made 30 saves on 33 shots in his first start of the fall.
UMass Boston earned a 39-33 shot advantage, with the two teams combining to go 0-for-6 on the power-play.
The Beacons will return to action on Friday November 21 when the Beacons host Castleton State College in UMass Boston's ECAC East home opener. That Saturday, the Beacons will host their UMass Boston Hockey Alumni Day and Alumni Game (9:00 a.m.), before their 4:00 p.m. contest against Skidmore College.
