In net, Zach Andrews (Coral Springs, Fla.) continued to shine, as the junior recorded 14 saves on 15 shots. Andrews finished with 46 saves on 47 shots for the weekend, to help UMass Boston extend their best start in program-history to 6-0.
Connor Pelkey scored the lone goal for the Thoroughbreds who have now lost four in a row, after a 2-1 start. Junior goalie Ben Freiberg took his first loss of the season, after allowing six goals on 41 shots.
The Beacons were dominant from start to finish, as they scored two goals in all three periods and earned a 41-15 advantage in shots on goal. UMass Boston ended the day 1-for-5 on the power-play, while Skidmore went 1-for-6 on the man advantage.
Kuhn dominated the Thoroughbreds in the first period, as the senior captain recorded his first career two-goal game at home. His first tally came at 5:19, when he grabbed his own rebound and lifted it over a sprawled out Freiberg for his second goal of the year. Buco and sophomore defenseman Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) recorded assists on the play.
Eight minutes later, Kuhn picked up his second goal of the day, when he went five-hole on Freiberg, off of passes from Jeremy Finger (Orlando, Fla.) and Kit Sitterley (Mooresville, N.C.).
UMass Boston added to their lead at the 4:21 mark of the second period with MacIntyre scoring off of a terrific pass from assistant captain John Houston (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Houston slipped a two-line pass to MacIntyre at the Skidmore blue line and MacIntyre buried his shot for a 3-0 advantage.
Milam got on to the board 32 seconds later, with Kuhn and Buco credited with assists.
Skidmore broke up Andrews' shutout bid 12:18 into the second stanza, when Pelkey rifled a shot through traffic for a power-play marker. Andreas Michailidis earned the lone assist for the Thoroughbreds.
Buco snuffed out any chance of a Skidmore comeback 1:04 into the third period, when the senior recieved a back-door pass from Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) and roofed it home for his fifth-goal of the year. Larkin and MacIntyre each were credited with helpers on the power-play goal.
UMass Boston closed out the scoring at 15:43 of the third period, when Buco took passes from Kuhn and Milam, before lifting a shot past Freiberg to make it 6-1.
