Box Score STANDISH, Maine – Four different players each found the back of the net as men's soccer cruised to their fifth shutout victory in the last seven matches as they defeated the Monks of St. Joseph's College (Maine) by the final of 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at Westerlea Way Field.
With the victory, the Beacons have now won six of their last seven, as they improved to 8-4 overall. The Monks, under the direction of former UMass Boston assistant coach Adrian Dubois, fell to 3-11 with Tuesday's non-conference loss.
The Beacons dominated play once again, outshooting St. Joseph's 20-7. Estive Sosa (Chelsea, Mass.) picked-up his first career victory and first career shutout as a Beacon. The Chelsea native made a total of four stops for UMass.
Registering the first tally of the afternoon was Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) in the 17th minute off of a Douglas Silveira (Revere, Mass.) assist. The goal represented his 11th of the year as he continues to lead the Beacons and the Little East Conference in scoring. Six minutes later, senior Lenir Lima (Mindelo, Cape Verde) got in on the action scoring his first goal of 2014, off of a pass from Dasilva.
After the halftime break, the Beacons saw newcomer Calvin Smick (Wilmington, Del.) score his first collegiate goal in the 50th minute. That was followed-up by a goal from Pedro De Carvalho (Praia, Cape Verde) to seal the non-conference win for UMass Boston. Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.) and Silveira were each credited with an assist in the two-goal second half.
UMass also led the contest in corner kicks registering six, while the Monks managed just two. Scott Benner made five saves and was handed his seventh loss of the campaign.
The Beacons return to action on Saturday when they host Western Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. in a Little East Conference match.
