CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Led by Elizabeth Glavan's (Edina, Minn.) match-high 19 digs and Kirsten Morrison's (North Reading, Mass.) nine kills and .692 hitting percentage, volleyball made quick work of Rivier University on the first day of the MIT Quad Invitational at DuPont Athletic Center.

With Friday's win the Beacons pushed their record back over the .500 mark as they now stand at 13-12 on the season.  For Rivier they dropped to 18-6 with the loss also ending a eight-match win-streak which started on October 3.  It also marked only the third time this season that the Raiders have been shutout.

In game one the Beacons handed Rivier a 25-21 loss to take a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.  From there UMB cruised to a 25-12 victory in the second, before clinching the non-conference win in the third following a 25-16 win.

Not only did Glavan post a match-high 19 digs, but she also finished with a team-best 14 service receptions in front of Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Patsy Boland (Chicago, Ill.) who each recorded 10 service receptions.

Morrison paced the offense, which recorded a .228 hitting percentage, scoring her nine kills on 13 attempts.  Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) was second on the team with eight spikes, followed by Boland's seven.  Megan Pollock (Wilton, Calif.) tallied 25 assists and had one of the Beacons eight aces.  At the end line it was all Porter as she scored three aces. 

At the net the Beacons defense tallied 7.5 total blocks, with Murphy recording one solo stop and four block assists.  Bri Sousa (Swansea, Mass.) notched one solo block of her own, while also tallying a block assist.  Morrison was just as solid as she finished with three block assists.

Volleyball returns to action tomorrow when they face Western New England University at 11 a.m. and MIT at 2 p.m. on the final day of the MIT Quad Invitational.
