Box Score

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – With a team hitting percentage of .300, volleyball recorded their third straight win and fourth over a conference opponent as they defeated Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth by the final of 3-0 Tuesday evening at The Francis Tripp Athletic Center.

Wednesday's victory improved the Beacons overall record to 11-5, 4-0 in conference play, while the Corsairs fell to 17-4, 1-3 in the LEC.  In the opening set, UMB handed the Corsairs a 25-15 loss, and posted a .290 hitting percentage with their 12 kills on 31 attempts.  After that the final two sets were much closer as the Beacons recorded back-to-back four-point (25-21) victories over Dartmouth.  The second set saw UMB finish with 12 kills, while in the third frame UMB finished with 17 kills and a match-high .344 hitting percentage.

Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) and Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, Calif.) proved to be the one-two punch for the Beacons as the two combined for 22 kills respectively.  Behind them were Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) and Amber Clemons (Simi Valley, Calif.) who each tallied six kills.

Freshman setter Emma Rocha (Boynton Beach, Fla.) posted a combined 24 assists to fuel the Beacons offense.  At the end-line Molly Witzmann (Encinitas, Calif.) tallied a team-best two service aces.  As a squad the Beacons recorded seven aces on the night.

Defensively, senior libero Kayla Wilson (San Jose, Calif.) totaled 12 digs to lead the Beacons, with Porter finishing with nine digs.  At the net Briana Sousa (Swansea, Mass.) continued her breakout play as she recorded a team-high three block assists.  Morrison and Clemons each threw down one solo block to fuel UMB's combined six team blocks.

Volleyball will now get ready to face one of their biggest weekends since the season opening tournament in California as they host their annual Beacons Invitational.  On Saturday, UMB will face Endicott College at noon, followed by a 6 p.m. match with 2011 national runner-up Christopher Newport University.
