BOSTON, MA - Sophomore forward Julienne McCuish (Mashpee, MA) netted a goal and added an assist to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer team over visiting Emerson College, 3-1, today at the Clark Athletic Center Field on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons improve to 12-4-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 10-7-1.

McCuish assisted on UMass Boston's first goal of the afternoon when she sent a cross to junior forward Tina Gillen (Carver, MA) who found the back of the net with a header into the upper left corner for her eighth tally of the season and a 1-0 lead at 11:52 of the opening half. McCuish gave the Beacons a 2-0 margin when she dribbled through the back line and scored on a low shot to the left side of the net at the 17:13 mark of the first half.

UMass Boston owned a 2-0 lead at the intermission until sophomore midfielder Molly Kuchar (Ashville, NC) increased its lead to 3-0 off of a direct kick from 25 yards out for her third goal of the year at 59:20 of the second half.

Emerson prevented the shutout with just 7:45 left in the match when senior midfielder Jessica Lander (Casselberry, FL) sent a long ball from the midfield through the back line and sophomore forward Genna Opatut (Freehold, NJ) finished with a goal into the back of the net at the near post at 82:15.

Senior midfielder Kristi Morales (San Francisco, CA) played in her 70th career match for UMass Boston to move past Kristin Bowes (2000-03) as the Beacons' all-time leader in matches games played.

Junior Michelle Cain (Essex, MA) increased her school-record with her seventh win of the season for UMass Boston with nine saves, while senior Shayna Reich (West Hills, CA) stopped seven shots for the Lions, who owned a 22-16 shot advantage on the day.

The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, October 31 when they host Little East Conference rival Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m. in the regular-season finale at the Clark Athletic Center Field, while Emerson prepares for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs, beginning on November 1.
