Volleyball Breezes Past Seahawks For Non-Conference Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Led by Sarah Doyle's (Glendale, Calif.) match-high 12 kills volleyball got back on the winning track as they recorded a 3-0 win over Salve Regina University Tuesday evening at Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beacons played their best match of the 2019 season to end a long six-game losing streak.  Doyle was impressive from start-to-finish as she hit .423, while also recorded three block solos, and one block assist to go along with her 12 put downs. 

In the opening set, the Beacons came out firing on all cylinders after a very long road trip.  UMB led from the opening serve and never looked back as they earned a 25-20 win to take the early 1-0 lead. 

The second set could have gone to either team, but with a strong push by the Beacons then managed to close out the frame with a 25-23 victory.  The final set, saw the two teams exchange control of the scoreboard twice, with the Beacons securing the non-conference win with a decisive 25-17 victory.

Also having a huge match for the Beacons was junior transfer Tyla Parker (Mahwah, N.J.) who registered 27 digs to go along with an ace and 17 service receptions. 

McKayla Geraghty (Elgin, Ill.) and Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) combined for 21 kills respectively, with Czapiewska also picking-up a pair of block assists.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Beacons are now 3-0 all-time against Salve Regina
  • UMB's 3-0 win was their second straight over the Seahawks, and their first since the 2014 season
  • The Beacons .202 hitting percentage was their best offensive showing since their season opening tri-match
  • Their combined 40 kills were the most in a three-set match this season
