PAWTUCKET, R.I. – With the 2019 volleyball season set to begin in just over 24 hours, the Little East Conference announced its preseason coaches' poll, in which the Beacons were picked to finish second.
UMass Boston grabbed two of the nine first place votes and finished with a total of 56 points. Reigning LEC champs, Eastern Connecticut State University were picked to repeat after earning six first place votes and 61 points. Longtime rival Keene State College was picked third with 53 points and had the lone remaining first place vote.
Western Connecticut State University closed out the top-4 on the preseason poll with 37 points. The University of Southern Maine finished right behind the Colonials with 36 points. Rhode Island College was picked to finish sixth (30 pts), while Plymouth State University (28 pts), UMass Dartmouth (15 pts), and Castleton University (8 pts) rounded out the poll.
The Beacons, who saw their season end in the LEC Tournament semi-final round, will look to climb the mountain again in 2019. Led by senior middle Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.) and senior defensive specialist Sidnee Berch (Boca Raton, Fla.), the Beacons are looking to claim their conference record 10th title this fall. Last season Doyle collected Second Team All-Conference honors, after having her best season on the harbor campus. The six-foot-three-inch middle currently is currently ranked eighth all-time in program history in block solos with 81, while her 162 block assists has her ranked sixth heading into her final season at UMass Boston.
