Women’s Track and Field Competes At Corsairs Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Alanna Olton (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded a team-best finish in the 100-meter hurdles to lead the women's track and field team at the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs Invitational Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

Olton's time of 17.25 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles marked a new personal best for the freshman sprinter.  Olivia Burnes (Paxton, Mass.) also had a strong showing for UMB, as the senior All-American registered a 12th place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.82. 

In the 800-meter run Brianna Steele (Rutland, Mass.) tripped the sensor with a time of 2:43.55, to post her first time in the event in the 2019 outdoor season.

The 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams both earned an eighth place finish.  In the 4x1 Krystal Alvarez (Framingham, Mass.), Gesheca Boswell (Kingston, Jamaica), Ruth Labranche, and Annie Appolon (Everett, Mass.) recorded a time of 53.71 seconds.  In the 4x4, Steele, Appolon, Rebecca Caley (Quincy, Mass.), and Burnes finished with a time of 4:42.37.

Arriannah Gervais, was the lone Beacon to compete in the throwing events as the freshman recorded distances of 27-08.25 feet in the shot put, 83-04 feet in the discus throw, and 62-11 feet in the javelin throw.

The Beacons will compete at the Carla Coffey Invitational next Saturday at Smith College.
