Women’s Track and Field Has Strong Showing At Reggie Poyau Invite

WALTHAM, Mass. – With a pair of top-3 finishes women's track and field got their 2019 season off to a solid start as they finished in seventh place at the Brandeis University Reggie Poyau Invite Saturday afternoon.

Annie Appolon (Everett, Mass.) and Olivia Burnes (Paxton, Mass.) each sprinted their way to third place finishes in Saturday's in-region meet.  Appolon took third in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.32 seconds, before posting a time of 8.44 seconds in the finals of 60.  Appolon also took third in the long jump, with her final jump marked at 16-01.75 feet. 

Burnes recorded a time of 28.09 seconds in the 200-meter dash, before taking fifth in the high jump with a height of 4-07.00 feet.  Burnes was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team alongside Nana Anane (Worcester, Mass.), Gesheca Boswell (Kingston, Jamaica), and Brianna Steele (Rutland, Mass.), which earned fourth place with a combined time of 4:34.94.  She was also in action in the 60 and recorded a time of 8.58 seconds to earn a top-10 finish in the prelims.  Anane tripped the sensor with a time of 8.84 seconds to earn 15th place in just the third meet of her college career.

Appolon and Krystal Alvarez (Framingham, Mass.) finished in 11th and 12th place respectively in the 200-meter dash with times of 29.05 and 29.14 seconds.  Steele completed the 200 with a time of 29.50 seconds, while Anane posted a time of 30.03 seconds.

Steele was the lone Beacon to compete in the 400 as she registered a final time of 1:06.53 which earned her sixth place overall. 

In the 800-meter run, Rebecca Caley (Quincy, Mass.) earned 12th place with a time of 2:46.13, while Caroline Mullen (Marshfield, Mass.) finished in 17th place with a time of 3:16.40.  Maggie Hale (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished the one mile run with a time of 6:50.61 to earn a top-15 finish.  Chantal Clerveaux (Boston, Mass.) recorded a seventh place finish in the 3,000-meter run after finishing with a time of 12:52.18. 

Alanna Olton (Stoneham, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 10.32 seconds.  She then finished in sixth place of the 60 hurdles with a time of 11.08 seconds.


The Beacons will compete at Greater Boston Track Club Invitational next Sunday at the Gordon Indoor Track Facility at Harvard University.
