CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – At Saturday's Wheaton College (Mass.) Invitational, Alessandra Fiallos (Derby, Conn.) set a new program record in the 60 meter hurdles with an impressive time of 10.50 seconds as part of a solid afternoon of performances for the track and field teams.
Her new record broke the original mark set by Jennifer Wong in 2009 by 27 hundredths of a second (10.77). The women's team also saw a total of 12 personal bests fall in Saturday's meet.
Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.), who has been ranked in the top-10 in the country in the event, set a program record in the high jump with an impressive leap of 6-08.00 feet. He now sits in the top-7 following Saturday's performance. On top of the program record by Hart, a total of 10 personal bests were set by the men's team.
On the men's side, Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) led the Beacons with an 18th place finish in the 60 meter dash with his time of 7.38 seconds. Norbert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) recorded the second best time for the Beacons with his time of 7.60, followed by Mohamed Fdal (Everett, Mass.) in 35th place with his mark of 8.15 seconds.
In the 300 meter dash, Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) led UMB with a third place finish and a time of 37.02 seconds. Gustave set a new personal best in the event with his time of 37.25 which earned him fifth place. Simon took ninth with a final time of 37.77 and Nick Silva (Fall River, Mass.) earned 10th and a personal best with a time of 38.05.
Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) was also a third place finisher with his time of 1:59.27 in the 800 meter run. Chhenlee Ly (Leominster, Mass.) earned 18th place and a personal best in the event with his time of 2:13.04. In the 4x200 meter relay UMB "A" team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:34.96.
After Hart's program mark in the high jump, Julian Hubbard (Windsor, Maine) set a new personal best with a height of 5-10.00 feet. Morales led the team in the long jump with a mark of 20-02.50 feet to earn fourth place overall. Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) took third in the triple jump with a jump of 42-08.75 feet, while Hubbard set a new personal best with a leap of 41-05.00.
Christian Cabrera (Fall River, Mass.) closed out the afternoon for UMass with new personal bests in the shot put (40-10.25) and in the weight throw (38-00.00).
For the women's team Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) hit a new personal best in the 60 meter dash with her time of 8.28 seconds. Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) also qualified for the finals in the event and went on to finish one hundredths of second behind her program record time of 8.14 seconds. In the 300 a total of five Beacons all set new personal bests, starting with Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) and her time of 43.97 seconds which earned her fifth place. Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) took sixth with a time of 44.21, followed by Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) in eighth (44.40), Shannel Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) in ninth (44.50) and Anisha Trappier (44.62).
Nicole Sidiropoulos (Carver, Mass.) recorded a 13th place finish in the 3,000 meter run with a new UMass Boston personal best time of 12:06.61. The 4x200 relay team posted a combined time of 1:50.73 to earn fourth place overall.
In the high jump, O'Brien leaped her way to a second place finish with a mark of 5-02.25 feet. McGuffie recorded a personal best in the long jump with her leap of 15-07.75 feet to earn sixth place overall. Brianna Anderson (Lynn, Mass.) and Anisha Trappier closed out the top-10 of the event with jumps of 14-10.75 and 15-07.75 feet respectively.
In the shot put Nicole Aube (Westfield, Mass.) and Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) each set new personal bests with throws of 29-08.00 and 24-09.00 feet. Aube also set a new personal best in the weight throw with a final toss of 35-06.75 feet.
Track and Field return to action this Friday when they take part in the Boston University Terrier Classic.
