CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In their final meet of 2012 the track and field teams competed against some of the top Division I, II, and III teams in New England as part of the 2012 Harvard University Open Saturday afternoon.
Overall it was a busy afternoon for the Beacons as almost every single athlete on this year's rosters competed in the huge meet. Leading the way for UMB on the men's side of Saturday's meet was sophomore Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) who placed sixth in the high jump and Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) who set a new program record in the 300 meter dash.
Hart recorded a jump of 6-04.75 feet, while Morales crossed the finish line with a time of 36.85 seconds to place 10th.
On the women's side Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) and Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) both set new program marks in their respective events. Faustin, who competed in the 300 meter dash recorded a time of 42.23 seconds, while Leao closed out the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:23.46. Freshman Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) made her college debut in the high jump and posted a height of 4-11.00 feet to finish tied for fifth overall.
Recording a 14th place finish in the 600 meter run was senior Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) with his time of 1:26.15, which was less than one second from breaking his program mark which he set in February of this year.
Freshman Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) closed out the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.06 seconds to finish in 15th place overall. She then recorded a jump of 15-10.50 feet to earn 17th place in the long jump. Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) was a top-15 finisher in both the 300 meter dash with her time of 43.76 seconds and in the 500 meter dash with her time of 1:24.05.
Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.40 seconds which earned him 8th place. In the finale he recorded a time of 6.82 to take 18th place overall.
In the women's 60 meter dash, Shannel Trappier (Taunton, Mass.), Briana Anderson (Lynn, Mass.), and Anisha Trappier finished tied for 44th place with a time of 7.70 seconds. Tiara Butler-Smith (Hyde Park, Mass.) also competed in the heat and finished in 89th place with a time of 8.50 seconds.
Anderson and Butler-Smith followed up their performances with a 40th and 70th place finish in the 200 meter dash with times of 28.01 and 29.79 seconds respectively. In the 55 meter hurdles Alessandra Fiallos (Derby, Conn.) took 36th place in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.60 seconds.
Anderson recorded a distance of 15-06.75 feet in the long jump. Thrower Nicole Aube (Westfield, Mass.) finished in 24th place in the shot put (29-06.00) and 27th place in the weight throw (31-10.00).
Phillip Douglas (Brockton, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 44th place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.70 seconds. Norbert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) and Morales finished tied for 78th place with a time of 6.90 seconds.
In the men's 300 Emilio Alvarez-Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) recorded a 19th place finish with his time of 38.19 seconds. Right behind him was Simon with a time of 38.30. Hart posted a time of 39.11 to finish in 23rd place overall.
Chris Chapman (Brockton, Mass.) led the Beacons in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:12.68. Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 32nd place (2:07.99), while Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) finished in 43rd place (2:12.13) in the 800 meter run. Kerin returned to the track in the one mile run and finished in 37th place with a final time of 4:39.87.
Morales, Julian Hubbard (Windsor, Maine), and Abdul finished in 20th, 21st, and 22nd place respectively in the long jump with marks of 19-09.50, 19-09.50, and 19-08.25 feet. In the shot put, Christian Cabrera (Fall River, Mass.) led the Beacons with his toss of 38-11.75 feet. Jabari Woods (Randolph, Mass.) was right behind him with a throw of 36-09.00. Ian MacDonald (Whitman, Mass.) and Lenford Coote (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed out the shot put in 31st and 38th place respectively. Cabrera also finished in 34th place in the weight throw with a final distance of 34-05.75 feet. Woods recorded a throw of 30-04.25 feet to finish in 38th place.
Track and Field returns to action on January 5 when they compete in the Roxbury Community College Tiger All Comers Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center.
