Kelsey Shea returns to her alma mater for her second season in 2019. 

She took over as the interim head coach in 2018 and helped guide the Beacons through the fall, before assuming a position as an assistant coach during the winter. During the 2018 year, Shea guided the Beacons to a 2-8 mark, including wins in each of her final two matches as head coach. 

A four-year player for the Beacons, Shea ended her career first all-time with 131 career matches played. She also sits first all-time in doubles matches played (72), third in total victories (51) and third in singles (23) and doubles victories (28). 

Shea was a leader with the Beacons throughout her career and served as a captain her junior and senior season. 

During her four years with the Beacons, UMass Boston accomplished several program firsts. 

As a freshman, Shea earned a 7-5, 6-3 win at sixth singles against Plymouth State University to clinch a playoff spot in the final match, on the final day of the regular season. The victory also marked UMass Boston’s first-ever win over the Panthers. 

During her junior season, the Beacons won a program record four conference matches (4-4), to earn the fifth seed in the LEC Tournament. 

The Beacons matched their conference win total her senior season, to earn back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time under the current LEC Tournament format. 

As a senior, Shea played in a program record 21 doubles matches and enjoyed her second-best statistical season. She finished 15-24 overall and earned a 9-9 mark in singles play.
